We would like to begin the process of filling our open roster positions now, instead of waiting until the season ends and scrambling to find quality players.
We currently only have 15 girls on our roster. If we are missing 2 or 3 girls for what ever reason, it is hard to get the girls the breaks they need to remain consistently competitive at high levels.
The coaches feel that the girls are getting to the age where formal tryouts are no longer needed nor fruitful, but we also do not agree with coaches scouting/recruiting girls off of other teams. We feel that it ruins the competiveness of the club teams in the area. We will however keep our ears open if girls decide to leave other teams for any reasons, but we do not want to be the instigators in the process.
If you know of any girls that have been playing competitively and would be interested in playing for the Sting, we would like to invite them to join us in a few practice to get an idea of their skill level. The idea would be to have the girls bring their friends to a practice as a friendly meeting. If we feel the player has the potential to be a sting player, we will invite the girl back for a few of our practices with the possibility of playing as a guest player in some tournaments or playing in some of the scrimmages we are setting up for indoor, thus leading to her becoming a member of the Sting at the next avaliable season.
**Please keep in mind that we are not asking the parents to go around and start recruiting girls from other teams like you are Ruben Amaro Jr at the trade deadline, but a lot of our parents are involved with other clubs and teams. We just ask that you keep you ears open and let us know of any quality players that are looking to joining a competitive fun team with a few spots to fill.**
Any questions let me know.
Thanks,
The Coaches

5v5 League
The UJSL 5 v 5 Summer League for boys and girls 7 to 14 will have its first games on July 8.
All games will be played at Parkwood. Our intention is to give each team 8 games from July 8 to August 26.
Games will be scheduled on Monday or Wednesday evenings. Games will be 35 minutes consisting of two 16 minutes havles and a 3 minute half time. Each team will field 4 players and a goalie.
Each team can consist up to 10 players. A player can play on multiple teams but not on two teams in the same age group.
Field size is 40yds x 30yds with a 6ft x 10ft goal. Plans are to use a size 4 Futsal ball. The concept is to take the Beach Blast experience and put it on grass.
Here are the girls on this years team:

TRYOUT RESULTS
We want to thank everyone for their hard work and commitment to the STING over the past year. We also want to recognize Jaime Cannon for her dedication to the STING and wish her well. Jaime informed us earlier this week that she is going to pursue other soccer opportunities.
Jaime, thanks for your dedication and good luck!!
After much deliberation, hard work and sweat from everyone involved, below you will find the names of the 2009-2010 PYO STING soccer team. Thank you to everyone that tried out.
Also, Kennedy is having surgery over the summer on her foot. Once she is cleared to play, she will start to practice with us again and work her way back into the lineup.
If you did not make it please realize that it becomes a numbers and position game when making cuts. We feel that everyone at tryouts have the skills to be an important part of a team. That being said we could only carry so many, to provided plenty of playing time for all.
If you are still interested in playing for Parkwood please contact Tim Eroh at timeroh3@aol.com or 267.902.9060.
I know his team is in the middle of tryouts and needs players.

I am sorry to say that Nesh needed to cancel the scrimmage on Thursday, I will try to reschedule.
Since the girls think that a scrimmage is a "Fun Practice" we decided to make Thursday's practice fun by setting up a mini 3v3 tournament.
We are going to fit this into the same time frame that the scrimmage would have taken. So please be at Parkwood at 6:15, with your all of your jersey's (Red, White, Black, and even Yellow).
Also I was expecting everyone to be at the scrimmage on Thursday so I assumed that you are still available. If you are not please let me know as soon as possible.
Here is the schedule:
6:15 Warm-Ups
6:30 1 vs 2 3 vs 4
6:50 2 vs 3 1 vs 5
7:10 2 vs 5 1 vs 4
7:30 4 vs 5 1 vs 3
7:50 2 vs 4 3 vs 5
8:10 Championship

Here are the teams:
Team 1 Team 2 Team 3 Team 4 Team 5

Kasia and Brittany didn't wait for the ball to come to them yesterday. They attacked the ball and anticipated the play. They used their body and busted through the other team without fear of breaking a nail or messing up their hair, thus winning the ball on many occasions. We need to see more girls willing to hustle without the ball. If you’re not moving before the ball get in your area, then you will be one step behind the other team. This is called anticipation. Kaisa and Brittany both get a bee for anticipating the play and running through the ball without fear!
This past weekend we (the coaches) went and watched two of the top Div 1 PAGs teams play in the state cup playoff. We noticed one big separation between those teams and the Sting. Those girls were willing put out the extra effort (getting knocked over, running through the play, making the extra sprints, attacking the ball, busting girls as hard as they could). They were not smarter, faster, or better soccer players than the Sting but they played with no fear. They weren't scared to make mistakes and they weren't scared to get physical.

“There are in any team players whose drive, whose competitiveness, whose determination in the game sets the standard,” U.S. coach Bob Bradley said after Tuesday’s practice. “When we look at all the different factors in a game, all the different qualities, sometimes on the inside we value a lot players who are competitive, players who leave it all on the field, players who, you know, if you were to just do a scorecard of everything that they do, that the scorecard may not look perfect, but at the end of the day you’d take them on your team any day of the week".

The first bee has been awarded. Congratulations to Cecilia. The coaches thought over the past weekend and this Tuesday at practice, that Cecelia has show the extra effort that we are looking for. She also took it upon herself to try to motivate her teammates in practice by her actions and words.
On a sad note it looks like we are going to be with out another player for a few weeks. Molly showed up at practice last night in a air cast. I only talked to her briefly but it sounded like she has a high ankle sprain.

On this page of the PYO Sting website we are goign to post highlights of the games, practice, and tournaments. We will use this page to acknowledge when a girl is playing her best. Most of the page will be comments from the coaches but I may post some e-mail I have revceived from other coaches, parents, players etc.
We have also started a new system to reward the girls for hard work called the Bee Awards (working title). A Bee is awarded for a standout performance at a game, practice, or tournament. Basically a girl will be given a award if the coach feels she has earn it. This could be for hard work at practice or in a game, taking the time to help a teammate, etc. If a girl receives a bee award it will be posted on the website.
Individual Awards:
3 Bees = You don’t have to run at the next practice.
5 Bees = You get to pick what we do for our final drill. (ie: scrimmage, world cup)
10 Bees = You get to run one practice
Team Awards
50 Bees = Rita's Night
75 Bees = Pizza Party
125 Bees = Roller Skating Party
At the end of the spring the two girls with the most Bees will become the captains for the Fall. We will consider the end of spring to be the Beach Blast
